A new year has only just begun, but already our friends at OMEGA watches have kicked the year off in style, announcing what is likely to be one of the biggest horological achievements of 2021.
This year, the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch collection will be updated with its next generation of models with this much-loved timepiece powered by a remarkable Master Chronometer certified anti-magnetic movement.
For this exciting launch, OMEGA has taken inspiration from the fourth generation Moonwatch style, commonly referenced as the ST 105.012, notably worn by Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon in 1969.
A nod to this historic model, the space-era tributes include a classic asymmetrical case, step dial, the double bevel caseback, and the famous dot over 90 (DON) and a dot diagonal to 70 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring. All of these are small but important details in the telling of the Speedmaster story.
Perhaps the most significant addition comes with the arrival of the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This new movement ensures that the Moonwatch is to be unaffected by even the most extreme magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss. As well as this, it ensures the watch is certified to the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance in the Swiss watch industry.
A fully brushed integrated bracelet offers a five–arched-links-per-row design. Similar to iconic Moonwatch styles of the past, it includes a new clasp with a polished OMEGA logo on a satin-finished cover.
With so many elements to explore, the decision on which piece to select now rests in the hands of the Moonwatch fan, choosing from eight special choices, including versions in stainless steel, 18K Sedna™ gold or 18K Canopus gold™.
