At Watches and Wonders 2021, Rolex introduces its latest creations, brought to life by its unique watchmaking expertise. From the deepest caves to the highest mountain peaks, and from ultra-precise technology to exacting artisanal craftsmanship, the new 2021 models are an ode to the history of this iconic watchmaker.
For 2021, Rolex presents its new-generation Oyster Perpetual Explorer. At a 36 mm diameter, it returns to the size of the original model launched in 1953 following the first ascent to the summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on 29 May that year.
Most notable is the introduction of a yellow Rolesor version, combining Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold. Displaying time on a black lacquer dial, the watch bears the index hour markers and emblematic 3, 6 and 9 numerals that have long been a mark of the Explorer, evoking the determination and spirit of adventure that gives rise to great achievements.
An impressive Chromalight display is added to the new-generation Explorer, with a longer lasting blue glow emitted thanks to an innovative and exclusive luminescent material coating the hands and hour markers.
The new-generation Explorer is equipped with calibre 3230, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology, which boasts a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
Rolex also introduces its new-generation Oyster Perpetual Explorer II. This Oystersteel technical watch was created for the boldest explorers and now features a redesigned case and bracelet. Its update brings enhanced visual balance and harmony to the watch while remaining true to its aesthetic heritage.
On the white lacquer dial, the hour markers – whose black coating is applied using PVD – and the black lacquer hour, minute and seconds hands stand out for their matt finish. The 24-hour hand retains its characteristic orange hue – the same colour as the Explorer II inscription that has featured on the dial since 2011.
The new-generation Explorer II is equipped with calibre 3285, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology. Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Explorer II carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.
Rolex introduces four new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 featuring new ‘palm’ and ‘fluted’ dial motifs. The palm motif evokes lush, vibrant tropical forests, while the fluted motif showcases the pattern found on a range of Rolex bezels that has become one of the brand’s signature aesthetic styles.
The palm motif can be seen on three watches. On the first, in Oystersteel and worn on an Oyster bracelet, the pattern is presented in an olive-green colour. It also decorates the golden dial of a second watch, a yellow Rolesor version fitted with an Oyster bracelet. The motif is finally presented in a silver dial on an Everose Rolesor version with a Jubilee bracelet.
The fluted motif is on the golden dial of the final new addition to the Datejust 36 range – another yellow Rolesor version – this time with a Jubilee bracelet.
All of these new versions of the Rolex Datejust 36 are equipped with the brand’s calibre 3235, carrying the Superlative Chronometer certification.
At Watches and Wonders 2021, Rolex presents three exclusive versions of its Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, the benchmark for those with a passion for driving and speed.
All three of the new Cosmograph Daytona watches feature a dial made from metallic meteorite, a rare natural material, with black chronograph counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The 18 ct white gold version is fitted with a monobloc Cerachrom bezel in black ceramic with a tachymetric scale, and an Oysterflex bracelet.
Two other watches, one in 18 ct yellow gold and the other in 18 ct Everose gold, have a metal bezel with a tachymetric scale and are worn on an Oyster bracelet.
A standout visual feature of the Cosmograph Daytona since its launch, the iconic tachymetric scale is moulded into the Cerachrom bezel of the 18 ct white gold version and engraved on the metal bezels of the 18 ct yellow and Everose gold watches.
