Tudor stood for the type of watch you could trust to be indestructible, and they possessed a kind of laid back attitude one couldn’t always be sure of with their older brother. If Rolex was the high flying CEO Tudor was his younger brother, on an eternal gap year throwing himself down mountains and jumping off cliffs.
And we liked that brother, a lot, but with the release of the Tudor North Flag we're starting to fall in love. This is a watch that sits Tudor up at the grown up's table.
The watch itself is extremely pleasing aesthetically, and it’s a well crafted piece of kit. The 40MM stainless steel case is cradled with a matte ceramic rim around the bezel. The matte black dial is accented with the bright yellow detailing found on the power reserve indication and running seconds hand. The yellow accents and over sized hour markers add an interesting spin on a simple dial, without being ostentatious or too daring. The watch comes on a black matte strap or a stainless steel bracelet, depending on your preference you really get a different feel of watch.
You may be thinking this is similar to previous Tudor releases and not quite sure what's got us so excited, and it isn't until you take an inspection of the 6 o'clock position of the dial that you realise just how serious Tudor are starting to take things...
“Chronometer – Officially Certified”. Oh, and did we forget to mention that Tudor have, for the first time, developed their own Calibre rather than sourcing from third party vendors. The Tudor North Flag is the proud owner of the caliber MT5621. Things just got serious.
It’s a big move for Tudor and is representative of how seriously Rolex are taking their future. Yes, we imagined that this move would be made eventually, but in 2015? We wouldn’t have bet on it. The MT5621 is a well crafted movement, 70-hour power reserve and a silicon hairspring AND it looks pretty damn cool too. Sleek and modern looking, and very very stylish.
