Watches and Wonders 2022: Patek Philippe

As Watches and Wonders gets underway in Geneva, Patek Philippe introduces twelve new models to their collection which holds true to their watchmaking mastery. Alongside a broad range of aesthetic reinterpretations, the brand introduces the Ref. 5326G-001 Annual Calendar Travel Time, a major technical debut.

Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Travel Time (Ref. 5326G-001)

This year, two useful complications come together for the first time in the form of the Annual Calendar Travel Time. With its round Calatrava case with unique design and decorative features, an inimitable dial and the new self-winding caliber endowed with eight patents, the Ref. 5326G-001 delivers a perfect example of an approach combining all facets of watchmaking artistry with balanced elegance.

The connection between the Annual Calendar and the Travel Time function involved several technical challenges for the watchmakers at Patek Philippe. Both mechanisms were required to interact in such a way that the displayed date corresponded with local time, hence the time at the location of the wearer of the watch. In the new caliber 31-260 PS QA LU FUS 24H movement, the Annual Calendar is controlled by the Travel Time function, with the calendar driven by the local-time hour wheel.

To accommodate this mechanical movement and its exclusive functions, Patek Philippe created a new 41mm white gold case. Time is displayed across a charcoal grey dial, with a fine gradation to the periphery and a slightly granular structure that is reminiscent of the cases of old photo cameras.

The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Travel Time Ref. 5326G-001 is delivered with two interchangeable straps, one beige calfskin with nubuck texture and the other black calfskin with embossed textile finish and beige decorative stitching.

Patek Philippe Calatrava (Ref. 5226G-001)

For those appreciating the exclusive design of the new Annual Calendar Travel Time Ref. 5326G-001, Patek Philippe introduces another watch to the Calatrava collection with the same aesthetic looks at 40mm, without additional functions.

The latest addition to the Calatrava collection, the new Reference 5226 is a perfect illustration of Patek Philippe’s quest for excellence in all fields of the watchmaking art. The pure, round case for which Calatrava models have been renowned since 1932, has been revisited by Patek Philippe, adorning the flanks with a Clous de Paris hobnail pattern typical of the Manufacture. To enable this guilloched motif to continue around the entire case band, the brand’s designers have also devised a distinctive case construction in which the lugs are an integral part of the case back.

Patek Philippe’s new Calatrava is driven by the self-winding Caliber 26-330 S C powering the hours, minutes, central seconds, aperture-type date and stop-seconds mechanism. The Caliber 26-330 S C boasts a power reserve of up to 45 hours.

This new reference is teamed with two interchangeable straps: one in beige calfskin with a nubuck finish and the other in black calfskin with an embossed fabric motif and beige topstitching.

Patek Philippe World Time (Ref. 7130R-014)

For 2022, Patek Philippe set the crowning touch to their longstanding tradition of World Time watches, by introducing a new ladies’ model, the Reference 7130. The Manufacture reinterprets this classic by adorning it with an original, modern and elegant olive green colour. The dial centre pays tribute to the brand’s Rare Craftsmanship skills with a finely hand-guilloched basket weave motif.

Its olive green shade is picked up on the city disk on which the white-printed names stand out in an extremely legible and beautiful manner.

Beating inside the refined exterior of this new Patek Philippe World Time is the self-winding Caliber 240 HU, an ultra-thin movement that helps keep the case extremely slim. Thanks to its city disk and its 24-hour disk, this caliber simultaneously and permanently displays the time in all 24 time zones. The Patek Philippe Caliber 240 HU boasts a power reserve of 48 hours.

Complimenting the elegance of this watch’s dial, the new reference is worn on a calfskin, hand-stitched strap in shiny olive green with a prong buckle.

Patek Philippe Grand Complications (Ref. 5374/300P-001)

Further demonstrating their watchmaking expertise and the skill of their artisans, Patek Philippe reinterprets the Reference 5374 — a combination of two highly sought-after major complications — in a new platinum Haute Joaillerie version with a blue-lacquered dial.

The case, with its subtle play on curves, is paved with baguette-cut diamonds tracing a luminous geometrical pattern. A double row of baguette diamonds adorns the concave bezel forming a perfect circle. The dial flange is also set with baguette diamonds, with baguette blue sapphires on the hour-markers. This original design forms an “amphitheater” around the dial and creates a spectacular depth effect. The visual balance of the perpetual calendar indications shown by hands, standing out against the blue-lacquered background with black-gradient rim, is particularly highlighted.

At the beating heart of the new Patek Philippe Grand Complications Ref. 5374/300P-001 is the self-winding mechanical Caliber R 27 Q, equipped with a minute repeater mechanism chiming on two “cathedral” gongs wrapped almost twice around the movement and producing a deep, rich sound.

This new addition to the collection is worn on a shiny dusk blue alligator leather strap with square scales, hand-stitched, secured by a diamond-set fold-over clasp.
