As one of the first brands to launch an exciting selection of timepieces at Baselworld 2018, we've been looking into the stylish pieces released today by TAG Heuer.
The Carrera “Tête de Vipère” Chronograph Tourbillon Chronometer is the first TAG Heuer chronograph to be awarded the highly coveted “Tête de Vipère” stamp of excellence, by the Besançon Observatory. One of only 500 watches to have received the prestigious certification since 2006, to obtain the award the timepiece must undergo 16 days of testing, at three different temperatures, in five varying positions. Being awarded this stamp signifies that the timepiece as a whole is a work of incredible technical expertise- bordering on perfection.
The 45mm timepiece features two of the most famous, traditional complications- the chronograph an the tourbillon- but has been updated to a highly modern aesthetic. The Heuer 02 T Calibre movement is housed in a midnight blue ceramic case, with complementing ceramic bezel and lugs. Touches of blue can be seen on the weight and movement, which is visible through the skeleton portions of the black dial. The “Tête de Vipère” stamp has been applied to the bridge, visible through the sapphire crystal of the case back. The timepiece is completed with a black alligator strap, sewn onto rubber with blue stitching, endowing it with TAG Heuer’s signature refined yet sporty look.
The Carrera Chronograph GMT is an exciting edition specifically designed with the younger generation of adventurer in mind. The GMT function allows two time zones to be read off the watch simultaneously- a modern essential for the avid traveller. This new model adopts the design codes and DNA of the Heuer Carrera, featuring the original “3-6-9” counter layout from the 1963 model. The chronograph minutes and hours are at 3 and 9 o’clock, with the permanent small second at 6 o’clock and the date window at 4:30. The second time zone can be adjusted using the crown, and is read using the lacquered red hand and the black and blue ceramic bezel, which has a 24-hour GMT scale. The GMT hand has been mounted between the hour and minute hands. This enables it to pass over the indexes and skim the GMT scale- ensuring maximum legibility.
This is the first occasion that TAG Heuer have added a Chronograph GMT complication to the prestigious in-house manufacture movement- Heuer 02. The automatic movement can be viewed via the skeleton portions of the black dial, and boasts a 75 hour power reserve. The movement is housed in a 45mm case, and is water resistant to 100 metres. The timepiece is available on either a steel bracelet or a rubber strap, with a folding buckle.
The Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph has been revisited for the 55th anniversary of the iconic collection. Two new vintage-inspired timepieces have been developed by TAG Heuer. Both with a 41mm case diameter, one is black with a black leather strap, and the other is blue with a steel bracelet. The dials feature three white counters, and flashes of red which emphasise the roots of the Carrera family in motor sports. The seconds counter is at 9 o’clock, the minute counter at 12 o’clock and the hour counter at 6 o’clock. The ceramic bezel features a tachometer scale- a crucial component for automotive timekeeping.
