Baselworld 2016 Live: Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

Baselworld 2016 Live: Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
It’s one of the watches that everyone is talking about at Baselworld 2016: the new Rolex 2016 Cosmograph Daytona, and it isn’t very difficult to see why.

Even at first glance the piece powerfully grasps your every attention. At 40mm the case isn’t the largest we’ve seen at Baselworld, but all is forgiven as the black ceramic bezel with tachymetric scale for measuring average speeds of up to 400 mph/kph is an incredible work of art.

The dial is a perfect white with small snailed counters, complementing the black outlined Rolex certified chronographs. The addition of the Rolex crown at the 12 position gives the watch an even greater feeling of regality and precision. As mentioned, the certified chronographs are tested against Rolex’s own impeccably high standards and the Rolex Superlative Chronometer holds a precision of -2/+2 seconds per day – that’s more than twice the official requirement of chronometers.

The bracelet is a solid-link Oyster steel bracelet, which means it has an Oysterlock safety clasp, preventing accidental opening, and also features the Rolex-patented Easylink rapid extension system which allows the wearer to easily increase or decrease the length by around 5mm.

Last but not least: the movement. The Cosmograph Daytona is powered by Rolex’s calibre 4130 movement, which is Rolex in-house self-winding movement. It’s incredibly reliable and was recently re-manufactured by Rolex to make it even more precise and robust.

The 2016 Cosmograph Daytona is also available with a black dial and in a yellow gold edition with Rolex green dial, for that classic Rolex look and feel.
