Baselworld 2018: Tudor

By: Amy Brennan-Stephenson

Baselworld 2018: Tudor
‘Born to Dare’- is the motto by which Tudor crafts their stylish, robust timepieces. The brand’s exciting launches at Baselworld 2018 show that this mentality is just as alive at Tudor HQ, as the years since their recent relaunch.

Baselworld 2018 has seen the release of the Tudor Black Bay GMT. The GMT feature allows the local time, as well as two other timezones to be displayed simultaneously on the dial. Despite the updated complication, the Black Bay GMT remains true to its roots as a divers’ watch. The dial features large angular snowflake hands, luminescent hour markers and a crisp black dial. These features ensure maximum legibility, especially in dark conditions. A manufacture calibre MT5652 has been designed by Tudor, specifically for the Black Bay GMT. This automatic movement boasts a 70-hour power reserve, and has been designed to ensure reliability, robustness and longevity. The distinctive Black Bay GMT captures the essence of the Black Bay in version for world travellers.

The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight is another exciting new release from the brand. Taking notes from the original diver’s watches of the 1950s, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight features the iconic snowflake hands, and screw-in winding crown produced for the first time in a brushed satin finish. The Black Bay Fifty-Eight takes its name from the year in which the first Tudor diver’s watch was introduced. The manufacture calibre MT5402 automatic movement has been used in this timepiece, retaining the reliability of its larger counterparts. The watch is completed with either a riveted steel bracelet, with a polished and satin finish; a dark brown leather strap with folding clasp; or a black fabric strap, with a gold stripe down the centre.

Following on from the initial release of the Black Bay S&G at Baselworld 2017, a new colour option has been designed and added to the collection for 2018. Now available with a champagne coloured dial, the Black Bay S&G perfectly balances the practicality of a divers’ watch, with the more formal yellow gold elements.
