As we celebrate International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to the achievements of women worldwide, DMR introduces some of the strong women across our business and asks what it means to them.
What achievement are you most proud of?
Starting running 8 years ago; and all of the muddy miles, marathons, friends and adventures it has taken me on ever since.
What’s the most important piece of advice you’ve been given?
Life is all about balance! Work hard, experience things, take care of yourself and nurture your relationships. Just remember to enjoy yourself and say yes to the slice of cake.
What’s the most important piece of advice you’ve been given?
The most important piece of advice I’ve ever been given, is don’t be afraid to go against the grain on something you truly believe is right for you or the world. No matter what others’ opinions are on something, if you truly believe that it’s the best thing, stand up for that. Be brave, we have so much more strength than we even know.
Who would be your three ideal dinner guests?
I’d love to have the opportunity to have one more dinner with my Grandmother. To be able to have the opportunity to ask her questions I wish I’d asked when she was alive. I’d also invite Audrey Hepburn as my grandmother loved her and I know we’d have such a wonderful time talking and learning about her life. Then I’d have to throw in my favourite artist Bruce Springsteen, he’s such a great storyteller, plus he’d be able to sing us my favourite songs.
What’s the most important piece of advice you’ve been given?
I’ve got two – be soft & kind but take no nonsense. I was once told by a former CEO to be “subservient” – it’s the opposite of everything you should be as a people leader, but it was followed by someone telling me
“if you are truly miserable – move on” – and I did.
Who would be your three ideal dinner guests?
Roy Keane – he loves dogs & hates parties – we are kindred spirits. Caroline Aherne – the best Manc with a brilliant sense of humour. Miriam Margolyes – for her amazing stories.
What’s the most important piece of advice you’ve been given?
I’ve been given a lot of great advice over the years… didn’t listen to half of it but the one line that sticks with me was from a gentleman called Stewart. He was my business mentor when I was 22… and often strong headed and wrong. He would always say: ‘Keep it simple, stupid’. Not particularly poetic but can be applied to almost any of life’s obstacles to see your way through, I apply it daily. He was old school and taught me a lot.
Who would be your three ideal dinner guests?
Elizabeth Taylor – her life, beauty, advocacy for others and of course, the jewellery collection. A dream. Graham Norton – always admired his people skills. Would love the chat. Barbara Rose – my beloved grandmother who passed away in 2019. Glam until the end. So many of the best bits of me are all her.
