Introducing the OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing

Introducing the OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing

From record-breaking deep-sea dives to lunar landings, OMEGA’s legacy is packed full of large-scale accomplishments. The first of this year’s big achievements from the watchmaking giant, is in fact rather tiny.

Today our friends at OMEGA introduce us to a new piece, with a beating heart that truly represents their constant efforts to create the finest advances in watchmaking technology. Welcome to the OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing.

OMEGA’s latest Speedmaster, the Super Racing, is fine-tuned for precision thanks to the Spirate™ System, which includes a revolutionary new patent-pending spiral that allows for ultra-fine rate adjustments. Thanks to this one-of-a-kind mechanism, it is now possible for OMEGA’s watchmakers to achieve certified precision of only 0/+2 seconds a day – a remarkable achievement.

To meet these narrow targets, OMEGA drew on both the technical resources of the Swatch Group and the precision, stability and reliability of OMEGA’s chronometrically superior in-house movement to quite literally reinvent the wheel!

The innovative solution was a totally new Si14 balance spring which allows the watchmaker to act on the stiffness of the hairspring’s attachment point through an eccentric adjustment mechanism located on the balance bridge.

The road to the Spirate™ System is paved with milestones. Many technological bricks set down by OMEGA over a quarter of a century, including the introduction of the world’s first truly anti-magnetic movement, the Co-Axial Calibre 8508 in 2013 and the Master Chronometer certification which went well beyond the industry benchmark in 2015.

Each innovation is a credit to OMEGA’s pioneering spirit and an essential building block in the brand’s latest achievement.

Introducing the OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing

The first timepiece to include OMEGA’s fine-tune Spirate™ System is the Speedmaster Super Racing in stainless steel. A visual tribute to the brand’s 2013 anti-magnetic masterpiece which offers a clear view of the new mechanism through the sapphire crystal caseback.

Although this is indeed a remarkable new 44.25mm steel timepiece, those who are avid followers of all things OMEGA will note that it draws aesthetic cues from other pieces within the brand’s history. It has a black sandwich dial with honeycomb pattern, featuring the racing style minute-track which gives the watch its name. Framing the dial is a black ceramic bezel ring with tachymeter scale in yellow “grand feu” enamel, a bold yellow shade featured on the OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss of 2013.

This iconic yellow shade is also used on the gradient chronograph hand, and yellow and black striped small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. The watch’s 60 minute/12 hour recorder is directly opposite at 3 o’clock, while at 6 o’clock there’s a date window in which the “10” appears in Speedmaster logo font, as a tribute to the anniversary of the Seamaster Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss.

The diamond-polished and bevelled black arrowhead indexes are filled with yellow Super-LumiNova, which emits a yellow glow. This colour code extends to the Speedmaster and Super Racing wording on the dial.

Water resistant to 50m, the new OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing is introduced on a steel bracelet and can also be worn on a recycled nylon NATO strap with black and yellow stripes. This new release retails at £10,700.
