Reflecting on SIHH 2017

Reflecting on SIHH 2017
SIHH 2017 has drawn to a close and what a show it has been! We have been able to get hands on with new collections from Panerai, IWC and Cartier, all of which have got us excited to get them into David M Robinson showrooms as soon as possible. Here’s a roundup of the key timepieces from each of the brands.

Panerai – Always pushing boundaries

Officine Panerai had a busy SIHH with four new releases based around new technology and materials. The LAB-ID, BMG-TECH, Submersible and America’s Cup all utilise existing Panerai models while pushing the limits of what these already formidable watches can do.

To commemorate the oldest sports competition in the modern world, the America’s Cup sailing race, Panerai has created five special edition watches all based around the Luminor model. Find out more here.

Panerai also introduced six new Submersible timepieces. Solid and strong, with unrivalled visibility even at great depths and a uniquely distinctive appearance: the new Panerai Submersible watches are professional divers watches drawing inspiration from the history of the brand but they look forward to the future, presenting innovative technical solutions. See more here.

The brand created a lot of buzz with the LAB-ID and BMG-TECH watches. We were very impressed with the innovations on display in these two pieces and have put together a dedicated blog on them here.

IWC – The Da Vinci Collection Updated

IWC Da Vinci

IWC have revisited the iconic Da Vinci designs of the 1980’s and unveiled the 2017 Da Vinci collection, bringing back the classic round case. The Da Vinci Automatic 36 and the Da Vinci Automatic Moon Phase 36 are tailored to women, while the Da Vinci Automatic is a unisex model. Two of the new Da Vinci timepieces feature newly created IWC-manufactured calibres that innovatively combine and integrate complications.

The whole collection is seriously impressive, however the standout models for us have been the Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph and the steel Automatic Moon Phase 36 for ladies, which is studded with 54 diamonds.

Cartier – The Panther reborn and The Drive refined

2017 is a big year for Cartier as they will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the iconic Tank collection in September. SIHH 2017 however was about the rebirth of an 80’s icon, the Panthere De Cartier. Cartier have introduced 15 new references to the collection, showcasing nine different metals/finishes and two sizes. Learn about this exciting new collection over at Cartier’s website.

At SIHH last year, Cartier announced a completely new watch, the Drive De Cartier. This year the brand released the slimmer limited edition Drive De Cartier Extra Flat and the Drive De Cartier Moon Phases complication. The Extra Flat is 39mm (down from 40mm) and very thin at 6.6mm. The watch felt great on the wrist and we think it’s going be a huge hit.

We’ll be posting more details about the price and availability of all of the watches we saw at SIHH as and when we get them, so keep checking our blog and social media channels.
